About Veila

Hi, I'm Julian — a robotics and software engineer living in Switzerland.

I've always believed that privacy online isn't just a nice-to-have — it's essential. Mass surveillance isn't only about selling ads; it's about control. When companies track your every click and keystroke, they can "optimize" you: charging you the highest price you'll tolerate, paying you the lowest wage you'll accept, and shaping what you see so you act the way they want. To stay free, we need to become unoptimizable.

At the same time, AI assistants are becoming incredibly powerful. They can help us think, create, and work faster than ever before — but the data you feed them is a goldmine for tech giants. Profiling users, selling insights, manipulating choices — it's all too tempting when your chats aren't private.

That's why I built Veila: a privacy-first AI assistant that lets you talk to state-of-the-art models without handing over your identity. No profiling. No shadow data trails. Just you and your assistant.

I built Veila as a solo developer in my free time, and I'm funding everything myself. Still, I offer a generous free tier so you can try it before deciding whether to make Veila your everyday assistant. Long-term, paid subscriptions will keep the free tier available, cover server and development costs, and — hopefully — fund an independent audit. There's no corporation backing Veila. Just me, and hopefully a community of people who care about private, human-centered AI.
